Annie Hall

I didn't know what to expect from this being my first Woody Allen film, but I ended up charmed by the quirky storytelling, humour and down to earth nature. Annie Hall is basically about Woody Allen's character Alvy Singer falling in love with (surprise surprise) Annie Hall and their odd relationship that ensues.

I especially enjoyed the way the characters would randomly address the camera audience or other characters would suddenly enter the scene to make a point. Woody Allen certainly plays around with the portrayal of a story and makes it more intimate and personal. I can imagine many many references went completely over my head. It wasn't hilarious but the quick clever humour was entertaining and charming.

Woody Allen's Groucho Marx-esque style of delivery became something of its own and his direction was original and quirky. Maybe I need to watch more Woody Allen films to really appreciate this! [B]
