It had to take something pretty big to get me into the swing of writing reviews again, but what better excuse do I need than the biggest film event of the year (yep, even bigger than DKR and The Hobbit). After a week or two of OMG THEY DID THE AVENGERS JUST HOW I ALWAYS WANTED IT TO BE!!!11! OMGOMG I calmed down a little and realised Omg, they actually DID do a film about a Norse god, a super soldier from WWII, a billionaire in an Iron suit and a doctor who turns green and angry exactly how it should be. Its stupid, ridiculous but above all insanely good fun.

Not only is it insanely good fun but it's awfully well written by the undoubtedly talented and aware (of what the fans and general movie goers want) Joss Whedon. The extended scenes of dialogue are at times just as engaging as the action scenes with some classic banter between the likes of Cap and Iron Man. They're all so well represented and balanced. It also makes you realise what a great job the people casting originally did. Unfortunately Hawkeye takes a bit of a back seat but with everything else that's going on its kind of forgivable (plus his archery skills get some well deserved acknowledgements, making for some of the coolest scenes in the film). The action is eye wateringly exciting and intelligent. There were moments when the team came together during the final third that I literally felt a shiver of excitement crawl up my spine.
Yes, as someone whose been waiting for an Avengers film for ten years I realise I'm biased, but I genuinely cant see how you couldn't enjoy the Avengers, as long as you like and know what to expect from superhero films. The fact that The Avengers actually got made into a film is a small miracle and in hindsight the best decision Marvel could have made ($207.1 million in the opening weekend! Beating previous champion Harry Potter DH 2). The best superhero adaptation to date.
9 (jibbed the grade system)
