Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

I think I stand with a large consensus when I say that the first Pirates was very good but after that the series took a downhill spiral into repetition and the greedy hands of the producers who realised Johnny Depp effortlessly brought in the cash.

I'm not saying Pirates 4 is a downright terrible film, it just does nothing new for the series at all. Whilst it introduces a couple of new characters (who are pretty bland) and doesn't (thank god) revisit the previous, overly complicated mess of a storyline, its the same sword fights, Captain Jack one liners, running, chasing, collecting, fighting, running again etc etc. Its so predictable and pointless now that I became completely bored multiple times throughout (which is very rare for me!) and it was somewhat shorter than the previous films too. I'm bored even writing this review! Of course if you loved the series from one to three (or more likely loved Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow) there is no doubt you'll get some enjoyment out of this.

I guess it's, at times, pretty to look at, and Depp is amusing as usual, but that's were the praise ends. Now that they've outright admitted their money making intent by not stopping at number three, there's no guessing how many more we'll have to endure! Saying that, unless I'm promised something refreshing, I don't think I'll bother with the series again! Very average. [C-]
