I feel there's so much to say I'm just going to delve straight to the point. The Dark Knight Rises is pretty much the perfect end to what is undoubtedly the best comic book trilogy of all time and one of the best trilogy's ever created. Yes, Bane was never going to live up to the jokers performance in the second film, but we all knew that already. However, DKR is bigger in scale, tension, emotion and score, amounting to the perfect end to a film franchise. As a finale film to Nolan's trilogy is couldn't be much better!
Bane, apart from having to strain to understand his voice, is a good villain mind. He's not only intelligent but matches Batman in terms of strength and fighting abilities making him the scariest and most formidable foe yet. The opening sequence does a fantastic job of introducing and demonstrating this. The Joker certainly needed a whole film to himself, and would really not of worked as a finale villain. The decision to have a lesser known, less poignant villain works wonderfully, allowing time to delve into other areas and characters.
In fact all of the characters and acting work well each gaining enough time to do justice to their characters. Anne Hathaway as Catwoman is especially convincing as femme fatale, and one of the many highlights. Joseph Gordon-Levitt as cop Blake provides an alternative perspective of the events and certainly isn't the throwaway character I'd thought he might be!
The soundtrack, once again by Hans Zimmer, is at the top of its game providing the perfect brooding and booming sound for such a grand film. Most of the film would have felt very underwhelming without Zimmer's work to back it up especially the opening sequence with its crashing drums and spine tingling eerie strings.
It was always going to be a tough act to follow with The Dark Knight and I know for many people it will always be the best of the trilogy, and part of me has to agree. However, DKR is the icing on the cake, mostly, the best possible way to finish the series. I know some people wont be happy with the very Nolan-esque ending and there are many gripes and plot holes to found within the story but if you enjoyed the other two and have a soft spot for anything Batman you're undoubtedly going to enjoy the Dark Knight Rises! 9
