The Fighter

Went to see the Fighter last night at my university's film unit and I have to say, I wasn't overly blown away. It was good but never really did anything special. At its core the Fighter is just another boxing/fighting rise to victory which has been done countless times before.

Christian Bale's cocaine addicted character Dicky Eklund is the stand out performance of the movie, and the rest of the actors play their roles well. It was interesting seeing Mark Wahlberg playing a serious role but his character wasn't particularly difficult to play.

To be honest, there's not a lot to say about the Fighter. Its solid in terms of direction, acting, soundtrack and screenplay, but never does anything new or refreshing to warrant it anything other than decent. Worth a watch, but nothing more. [B-]
