Sucker Punch

After being a geeky fan of Zack Snyder's previous work; 300 and Watchmen, I was expecting more ridiculous, spectacular slow motion visuals. I certainly wasn't disappointed!

Sucker Punch takes the Zack Snyder style to the extreme with a visual extravaganza of slow motion dodging, bullets, dragons, robots, huge samurais and a plethora of other fantastical creatures and graphical wizardry. Basically, its amazing to look at and so much fun to watch. Sucker Punch is also accompanied by a trippy, interesting soundtrack that fits the mood well.

The acting is a little non existent from the women, who seem to simply provide (good) eye candy. Oscar Issac actually gives a surprisingly strong and scary role as the villain though!

Unfortunately, unlike Watchmen, this is Snyder's own creation. So, whilst it gives him more freedom (and this works in the what he does best - the visual impact) it means the story feels weak. I guess it does the job, but tries to examine themes a little too clever for its own boots.

Take it at face value though and this is graphically wonderful! Look a little deeper and it start to shows a few cracks and defects. [C+]
