Okay, so maybe a long time Marvel fan isn't the best person to write a review of Thor. My bias had already decided that this film would be awesome before I even went into the cinema. However, I tried my best to remove my comic book tinted glasses, and I must admit the verdict still equates to awesome! Of course If you have no interest in comic book movies at all you've already made your own mind up, and no, Thor is unlikely to change it.

What Thor does so well is to seamlessly introduce you to the character, and by the end of the film you'll be left eager for more
Norse related action (more specifically in the shape of the Avengers!). This is obviously helped by a fantastic performance from Chris Hemsworth, who effortlessly slips into the role of the mighty, charming and sometimes amusing Thor. Unfortunately I felt uncaring towards the relationship between Natalie Portman's character and Thor. Whilst it made sense considering the plot, it just seemed improbable that a thunder god would care for a mortal so much in such a short space of time.
The rest of the cast perform solidly with the only other stand out performance being Tom Hiddleston as the trickster and second son of Odin, Loki. He's a genuinely interesting and original bad guy (if you can even call him that) adding to the emotional turmoil of the Asgardian family. Combined with a genuinely interesting universe and well planned plot this completely does justice to the comic.
Admittedly I didn't see this in 3D (I'm sure it made minimal difference as with all 3D) but the visuals were still outstanding! Asgard looked magnificent and perfectly recreated. On top of that the action scenes were also fantastic fun.
So whilst Iron Man 2 felt like a rushed advertisement for Marvels big superhero romp The Avengers next year, Thor feels fully fleshed out, well considered and an exciting sign of what's to come! Comic book films at their most entertaining! [A-]
