Its difficult to review a gangster/mafia film without instantly comparing it to the Godfather and the many, many other 'classics' within this genre (including Once upon a time in America which is I personally preferred to the legendary Godfather).
Goodfellas however ranks very highly amongst the big shots. In fact its easily good enough to be a big shot itself. Its everything you'd expect from both a mafia and Martin Scorsese film; dark, violent, gripping and with an epic storyline (although not nearly as epic as Once Upon a Time). The characters and journey were involving enough for the film to have lasted another hour and not of felt as if it was dragging! [A]
